Dr. John W. Keith, PastorThe Red Hills Southern Baptist Church is an exciting fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ. We are excited because we are on a spiritual pilgrimage of following Jesus to the end of the earth to share the Good News of the salvation that only Jesus Christ can bring. A passage of Scripture that means a lot to our church is Psalm 121. You may be familiar with it, let me quote just the first two verses, ..."I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made the heaven and earth."
Psalm 121 is what is known as a "traveler's psalm." It describes the journey of a worshipper on his way to worship God in the temple at Jerusalem. Let me share with you three thoughts from this Psalm. Number one, the anticipation of hope as the traveler journeys to the holy city. As you read the Psalm you can feel his anticipation of joy in the Lord's presence when he gets to the holy city. Number two, the consideration of the hope as he travels. As the pilgrim travels to the city of God he considers all that God has done for him and all that God will do for him. Number three the consummation of his hope. The consummation of his hope is the Lord Himself--9 times in the 8 verses of Psalm 121 the Psalmist mentions the Lord's name directly or the personal pronoun "he".
Like the Psalmist of old, believers in Jesus Christ are on a spiritual pilgrimage. We are traveling to the holy city of God in heaven. We too anticipate the joy of being there with Jesus and worshipping at His Holy feet. We too consider all the wonderful things He has done for us and will do for us. We look for the consummation of the age--the glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ. What a day that will be.
Perhaps you haven't begun your spiritual pilgrimage yet but you would like to. The way to begin is by putting your faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. If you would like to know more about that, the web page shares the way to do that. If you would like to worship with us we would open our arms and our hearts to you.
God bless you,
Pastor John
