For instance, Police incident reports may be released to the victim(s)/defendants or authorized representatives, insurance carriers, and legal representatives. For criminal history information, the El Paso Police Department gives access to authorized individuals and employers who wish to run background checks for employment purposes. These include child care centers, security guard firms, law enforcement agencies, and public utility companies. But the record owners, particularly individuals who have been arrested and processed by the El Paso Police department, are authorized to obtain copies of their criminal records.

The El Paso County Clerk's Office maintains death records within the county. A death certificate is the most comprehensive death record. It is a certified copy of the original death certificate and shows the history of corrections that have been made to the death record. A death verification letter includes the deceased's name, the date of death, and the place of death. Verification letters are available for deaths that have occurred since 1903. However, verification letters are not considered legal substitutes for certified copies of death certificates. Only eligible applicants can request certified copies of El Paso death records.

The County Clerk’s office maintains an online database for death records in the country. Record seekers can search the public records portal using either the first or last name of the subject. Searches can also be refined to only include records available for a specific period. To request death records in person, visit the County Clerk’s office with a completed application form. The Clerk’s office charges $21 and $4 for additional copies. For mail-in requests, submit a completed request form, a copy of a valid photo ID, and a certified check/money order.
